Sixteen Ontario Businesses to work with Seneca College

Through an investment from the Federal Economic Development Agency for Southern Ontario, sixteen small- and medium-sized businesses will work with Seneca College to develop new technologies, conduct research and bring business and technology ideas to market.
It’s an interesting list of companies focused on plastics, personal mobility, health, security and many more.

Canadians prefer Internet over other media

A Canadian-based survey of media users suggests that most value Internet access over their newspaper, cellphone and TV subscriptions. And if forced to choose one, they would stay online.
The Canadian Media Research Consortium commissioned the online survey and found:
- 42 % of respondents said the Internet would be the last service they would cut
- 24 % would keep their cable TV
- 17 % would keep their cellphone service or newspaper subscription.
Overall, the survey really speaks to how Canadians get their information – important news for business seeking to find customers.

TD Small Business Happiness Index reveals benefits of business ownership
TORONTO, July 26 /CNW/ – Ninety-eight per cent of Toronto business owners say owning their own business gives them a sense of pride and accomplishment. With this in mind, it’s not surprising that they are a happy group:
- Two-thirds would describe themselves as ‘very happy’
- 87% say they are happier owning and running their own business.
These are findings from the TD Small Business Happiness Index, which examined the attitudes and behaviours of North American small business owners in a dozen urban centres.

LinkedIn to open office in Toronto

LinkedIn, the popular online social networking service for business professionals, announced Monday it plans to open an office in Toronto as part of an international expansion plan that has seen the U.S. Internet company set up shop in Australia, Ireland, The Netherlands, India and the United Kingdom.
In moving to establish a footprint in Canada in the next few months, LinkedIn plans to hire a full team, including a Canadian country manager who will help oversee the company’s ambitions to increase its user base, grow its advertising business and further its subscription and recruiting businesses here.

Canadian Small Businesses ready to hire

More than one-third of Canadian small businesses expect to hire new employees and many are ready to take on increased risk, two signs that the country’s main driver of economic growth is picking up speed.
With increasing workloads expected, 38% of small business owners said they are planning to hire in the next year to manage the pickup, a finding in the Angus Reid Public Opinion poll conducted for the quarterly American Express Small Business Monitor found.
